The Holiday Balancing Act

 

The holiday season can bring about many disruptions in our daily routines with changes in work schedules, family gatherings, holiday travel, school schedules, etc. When we can notice these changes and plan accordingly, we set ourselves up to be successful in maintaining our health and fitness during this season. This is part one, of a six part series to help you navigate the holiday season and continue your progress on your own fitness journey.

If you have had the opportunity to sit down and speak with an OPEX Healdsburg coach, you will be familiar with Basic Lifestyle Guidelines (BLG’s).  We believe, that BLG’s create the foundation to build a stronger more resilient individual and allow us to succeed in both normal and demanding times.

BLG’s can be broken down into 4 different categories: Balance, Rhythm, Energy and Purpose. Each of these categories work together to help us create the resiliency needed to stay healthy, perform at a high level or manage the day to day activities of our lives.

Basic Lifestyle Guidelines

  • Balance – focus on maintaining a good balance between work and rest and creating enough time for both of these (mostly rest) on a daily and weekly basis
  • Rhythm – it is essential to maintain your daily routines; daily physical activity (a simple walk), proper hydration levels, and good food hygiene practices (sit down to eat, chew your food, relaxed states during meals, etc.).
  • Energy – we rise with the sun, we sleep with the moon. It’s essential to honor the sleep cycle and circadian rhythms, on a daily basis, but especially during times when stress is greater.
  • Purpose – Where do you place your highest priorities? Why do you want to achieve the goals you set for yourself?  When you can create a deep emotional attachment to your goals and align those with your highest priorities, you set yourself up for the greatest amount of success.

As the holiday season approaches, use this checklist to notice if you’re staying on track with your health and fitness goals. This will help you go into 2018 fresh and ready to continue to conquering your goals.
